The presentation will cover the definition, causes and symptoms of cognitive decline with various diagnostic examples. For example, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s Disease or Parkinson’s disease. A summary of supportive communication and environmental techniques will be highlighted.
Dr Berndt is an occupational therapist with a career spanning 35 years. Her roles have included inpatient and community mental health services for older people; domiciliary care; multi-disciplinary in-reach for people living with BSPD in residential care; developing primary health care item access in Medical General Practice; Clinical Director driving assessment and rehabilitation service; teaching occupational therapy students; research with 22 peer reviewed publications, Occupational Therapy Program Director (current) and Acting Dean of Allied Health.
Since moving from health to education, Angela has won four teaching awards, two research recognitions and three Chancellor’s awards for community engagement. Angela is a GAICD, was President of the Board of Occupational Therapy Australia and recipient of the OTA Lifetime Membership Award in 2021.
