Biomechanics informed management of the foot and ankle: a data informed, outcome-driven approach

Podiatrists are world experts in the biomechanics of the foot and ankle. In practice, we routinely offer instrumented gait analysis to our patients to better understand function and basis of pathology. However, the understanding and management of external and internal forces often proves difficult as force cannot be seen, only measured.

This workshop will take attendees inside the processes of one of Australia’s leading 3D gait lab to better understand biomechanics informed prescription of custom foot orthotics and strength and conditioning programs. The workshop will have a particular focus on the functional biomechanics of the foot and ankle, and how common treatment modalities we use as Podiatrist provide their mechanical therapeutic effect.

We will unravel the relationships between muscle strength, kinematics, kinetics, work and power to develop an appreciation for how best to manage patients with foot and ankle conditions. Real life case studies will form the basis of discussion.
