Rob will discuss key principles of best practice management of diabetes-related foot complications, including flow charts developed by DFA guideline working groups. The interactive talk will also discuss new technologies such as the role of BTM (Biodegradable Temporising Matrix) and stem cell therapies in improving outcomes in complex foot problems. The role of Virtual Reality in education and improving telehealth in rural, remote and Aboriginal communities will also be discussed.
Rob Fitridge is Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Adelaide and a Vascular Surgeon at CALHN. He co-leads the Multi-Disciplinary Foot Service at The Queen Elizabeth and Royal Adelaide Hospitals.
His research focusses on improving wound healing and avoiding amputations in diabetes-related foot complications. He has recently been appointed co-Chair of the International Working Group for the Diabetic foot- Peripheral Arterial Disease Working Group and was a member of the steering committee of the Global Vascular Guidelines for Chronic Limb-threatening Ischaemia.
