PHILLIP HARTSHORNE

Virtual Orthotics

Biography

I have been an active member of the podiatry profession since graduating in 1996. My work life has been varied having owned private practices, an orthoses lab (Virtual Orthotics), a podiatry marketing company and have been on staff at Western Sydney University, Central Queensland University and Newcastle University.

Currently, I am sponsoring a PhD that is investigating the effects of footwear on balance at La Trobe University. I regularly consult to organisations and universities on how best to commercialise research, having patented a lumbar support for fighter jet pilots and commercialised a number of footwear research projects. For almost twenty years I have been designing and manufacturing footwear for mass retail and am the podiatrist on Standards Australia, which assists in my active involvement in the APodA endorsement program.

Outside of podiatry I have been a director & President of several sporting organisations with athletes competing from grass roots through to Commonwealth Games and World Championships. A lot of my passion now lies in my involvement as the President of a disability charity, achillesaustralia.org.au that provides guides for athletes with vision impairment to promote and facilitate exercise.
