Presentation: An update on the use of foot orthoses in children with inflammatory conditions.

This presentation will focus on providing an update on the effect of foot orthoses in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The presentation will also provide some clinical indicators/tips for podiatrists for children with inflammatory conditions.

Biography

Dr Fellas is a lecturer in Podiatry at the School of Health Sciences (SHS), College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing (CHMW), University of Newcastle (UON). Dr Fellas is a member of the 'Equity in Health and Wellbeing Research Program' at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and a current member of the Australian Podiatry Association (APODA) and Australian Paediatric Podiatry (APP) Group. 

Dr Fellas is an AHPRA registered Podiatrist and has been a practicing clinician since graduating at the UON in 2014. Dr Fellas’ research and clinical focus are the fields of paediatrics, sports, biomechanics and rheumatology. During his PhD Dr Fellas led a multicenter randomised clinical trial at the Sydney Children's Hospitals at Westmead and Randwick and the John Hunter Children's Hospital in Newcastle. This clinical trial explored the effect of a low-cost and safe intervention to reduce lower limb pain and improve outcomes such as quality of life and walking function in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
