The Royal Children’s Hospital
MBBS, FRACS, FAOrthA
Brian Loh spent his childhood in Kuala Lumpur and finished school in Melbourne, prior to commencing at Ormond College in the University of Melbourne. He entered Medicine, but also completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science which culminated in a thesis on the effect of IGFBP-3 in epidermal homeostasis whilst at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI). After completing his medical degrees, Brian worked as a resident medical officer at Monash Health and in a number of country hospitals, including Traralgon and Mildura.
Brian began his Orthopaedic Surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA - Vic) in 2010, completing it in 2015. After being accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA), Brian completed a fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics through the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Toronto, Canada, as well as a fellowship in Adult Hip surgery at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), Scotland.
These fellowships consolidated Brian’s skills in managing the spectrum of Paediatric Orthopaedic conditions including: Hip Conditions in Kids, Sports Medicine for Kids, Paediatric Foot and Ankle & Obstetric Brachial Plexus Palsies along with Complex Adult Hip Arthroplasty. This dual interest in Paediatric and Adult Orthopaedics gives Brian terrific insight into the management of many hip afflictions and he can offer assistance to the very youngest patient and their families all the way through to the oldest members of our community.
First published in 2005, Brian continues to pursue his research and academic interests whilst also actively participating in Registrar training in the Victorian AOA training programme. He has Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) appointments at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne and Monash Health.
