Vital Connections
Founder and Occupational Therapist
Podiatrists are experts in enabling kids to walk, run and play with comfort and ease, contributing to physical, social and emotional development. Foot pain can disrupt these activities, and thus developmental potential. Today’s presentation will provide a brief update on our understanding of children’s foot pain based on recent findings from Australian paediatric electronic persistent pain outcome collaboration (Paed-ePPOC) datasets and international paediatric pain research groups. Information presented will suggest guidelines for management and referral pathways for children with complex nociplastic pain to support development and children’s well-being.
Dr. Cate Sinclair is an occupational therapist and director of Vital Connections Allied Health, and the current Chair of the Pain in Childhood Special Interest Group of the Australian Pain Society (2023-2025).
Cate has over thirty years’ experience working with children, adolescents and adults in senior clinician and managerial roles in public health, community and mental health, and private practice. Cate has a particular interest in the impact of chronic ill-health, such as pain, fatigue and disease states, and the complex impact of these states on the mind and body, and capacity to function.
Cate has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, Master’s in Art Therapy, and a Doctorate in Philosophy. Her research focuses on links between persistent pain, sensory systems, and the relationship or attachment patterns which evolve in families when there is exposure to trauma. Cate has presented her research at national and international conferences and has disseminated her research in peer reviewed publications and books.
