This presentation will discuss recent evidence on the use of foot orthoses in children and identify the gaps, considerations and recommendations around their use.
Dr Helen Banwell is the Program lead for Podiatry at the University of South Australia with over 25 years of experience teaching, working, and researching various aspects of clinical practice. Her research focuses on improving consistency in practice, predominantly in the paediatric area, and translating evidence into practice. Helen is a paediatric credentialled podiatrist (via the Australian Podiatry Association), was the chair of the Paediatric Special Interest Group (SA), spent several years as the consultant podiatrist for Correctional Services SA (Juvenile division), and has worked extensively within the NDIS space as a senior consultant. Her Ph.D was in the use of foot orthoses in adult flat foot, which she has reproduced in the paediatric space and has a focus on using clinically meaningful measures to identify impact of podiatry interventions.
