5% Dextrose Hyaluronic Acid Injections for Foot and Ankle Pain

5% dextrose injections have been used to reduce pain for 20 years and may have a use in the treatment of painful foot and ankle conditions. Hyaluronic acid has been used as a treatment for chondral disease of the knee since the early 90's - does it have a role in the treatment of foot or ankle arthritis?

What excites you about this presentation?
Injecting subcutaneous dextrose is a useful low cost technique that's not widely known about that has been useful in other areas of the body.  Hyaluronic acid also has proven effective for other joints but not as widely promoted for ankle and foot osteoarthritis. Should HA  be used more? GPs take seriously suggestions from allied health experts so being aware of treatment options is important.

What do you wish more podiatrists understood about the topic you will cover?
Be more aware of injectable options for pain relief.

How Delegates can find you?
The doctor who developed the 5% dextrose injection technique is a NZ doc called Dr John Lyftgot and his website is at https://www.lyftogtmed.com/.

There are a few common brands of HA used in Australia. A popular one is called durolane  https://www.oakneepainrelief.com/durolane/.
